Monday, February 8th, 1:39pm

An open letter to the community about the future of RCR, and a invitation to the public meeting on Wednesday 17th February 7.30 pm, details below:

Those of you who have taken part as representatives of a group or organisation or as an individual, in any of the five short-term broadcasts undertaken by Reading Community radio so far, will know that radio is an effective way of reaching out to the wider community in Reading.

By being involved you can:

Reading Community Radio is about to enter into an exciting new phase by working towards streaming 24/7 on the Internet. This is being made possible by our setting up a studio in the premises of Reading Association for The Blind at Walford Hall in Carey Street. The experience gained by taking this step will make the transition to full-time broadcasting when we get our Community Radio Licence a fairly simple one.

The comparatively small, although dedicated, team of volunteers we have built up will not be able to take this step unaided and we need to increase the numbers involved considerably. With this in mind, we would like to invite you, or a representative of your organisation, to...

A meeting in the conference hall at RISC, above the Global Café in London Street at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 17th February.

This meeting will give you the opportunity to find out more about Reading Community Radio and what we can offer, about the role you or your organisation can play in community broadcasting in Reading and give you the opportunity to have a say in how we should develop.

Areas of involvement include:

These roles are to enable the general running of the station and need to be filled but you might also want to look at the preparation and presenting of programmes relating solely to your group or organisation, whether on a one-off or regular basis. These programmes will involve your own members in promoting themselves. Our new studio has no disabled access but arrangements can be made to record programmes elsewhere.

Reading Community Radio has an Open Access Policy and we welcome everyone, irrespective of ethnicity, beliefs, age or health.

Training will be provided as appropriate and the gaining of the skills involved can lead to increased self-confidence, uniting the wider community and, something very difficult to evaluate, a lot of fun!

Businesses in Reading can also be involved by

Thank you, and we hope to see you on Wednesday 17th February!

Hello Everyone!

Thanks to all those who listened and supported us during the RSL a few weeks ago. We’re off the air now but we’ve got good news about our ambition to become a 24-7 community radio station for Reading.

On June 8th the Charity Commission for England and Wales awarded us charitable status! Our charity number is 1119557 and helps us toward being totally community focused.

It a great step but there’s a few more bridges to cross yet, so stay posted.
